KHY's Meditation App Guide

Updated: Jul 27, 2021

Have you been feeling stressed out recently? Are you looking to improve your self-awareness? Meditation might be JUST the thing that your body and mind are craving!

One of my favorite ways to practice meditating is through using different apps! Guided meditation is so helpful for me to maintain my focus and get the most out of each meditation session.

When I first explored meditation, I found it easy to feel lost or self-conscious that I wasn't doing it correctly, enough, or with the right techniques. These are typical concerns of most beginners.

Naturally, I wanted to take lessons from a trained teacher but often found it was too time-consuming or expensive to go through that process. Eventually, I started to use meditation apps and found this way was much more accessible. With apps, I am able to dive into meditation whenever I want and for whatever length of time I need.

With many of the apps I have listed below, I can even choose meditations that are relevant to the emotional experience or intentional introspection I am having at that moment. Adding meditation to my life makes me feel more connected and grounded to the moment around me. It's a practice that everyone can do and fit into any lifestyle with some guidance, encouragement and the right app :)

To make starting your meditation journey a little easier, I decided to put together a list of some of my favorite apps for meditation 🧘‍♀️ Meditation is a great habit to get into in the morning, even if it is only for 5 or 10 minutes! ☀️

Here's my list:

1. Plum Village

This free app utilizes guided meditations, practice songs to bring joy to your practice, and mindfulness bells that allow the user to make reminders for breathing throughout their day. I really love how this app integrates Buddhist traditions of meditation and makes it accessible to all.

2. Insight Timer

Insight Timer is another free app that offers over 95,000 guided meditations that cover topics from sleep to spirituality and even offers meditations designed for kids. For a seamless and easy experience that also lets you try out different styles of meditation, Insight Timer is the way to go!

3. Chopra

Chopra fosters a mind/body/soul connection approach to their methodology, and offer different lengths of sessions to fit every schedule! It even offers personalized tracking so that you are able to track your progress as you continue on your meditative journey towards self-growth and awareness.

The only downside is that it is a little pricey - $69.99 for an annual subscription.

4. Asana Rebel

Asana Rebel not only offers meditation and breathing exercises, but also HIIT, yoga, and various other fitness classes on this paid app! Their overall goal is to help you achieve your own fitness and wellness goals, so you are sure to feel supported as you embark (or continue on!) your journey.

There are various subscription levels, starting at $15.99.

5. Headspace

Headspace only focuses on meditation and meditative practices, and is a very well designed way to improve your mood and reduce stress. Celebrity speakers (such as Matthew McConaughey, Kate Winslet, and Lucy Liu) are featured giving different guided meditations, which makes this app even more immersive!

There is a free option that allows you some access to meditation sessions, but the Pro version is offered for $12.99/month.

Glo offers online meditation, yoga, pilates, and other fitness classes and is designed to make you feel the best that you can both physically and mentally.
